Karachi: Pakistan beat India 2-1 to reach the semi-finals of the Asian Nations Championship in Dalian, China on Friday.
Asim Khan scored in India’s 3-0 win against Rahul Bait in Pakistan.
However, India’s Velavan Senthilkumar brought his team back with a 3-0 win over Nasir Iqbal in the match. But Pakistan coach Faheem Gul confirmed that Iqbal was suffering from fever and therefore could not perform well in the match.
With the match level at 1-1, Pakistan’s Noor Zaman stepped up to help his side advance to the next round in a 3-0 defeat of Suraj Kumar Chand.
Pakistan will face Hong Kong, who defeated Iran, in tomorrow’s semi-final.
Pakistan coach Gul was happy after the win against India and hoped that the team will perform well in the near future.
Earlier, Pakistan were unbeaten in Pool C of the event along with South Korea, Chinese Taipei and China.
Pakistan beat Taipei 3-0 and Korea 2-1 on the opening day to get off to a good start to the tournament. Meanwhile, they qualified for the pool with a 3-0 win over China yesterday.
Pakistan is the most successful team in the history of Asian Men’s Squash Championship with 15 gold medals. However, the last time he won this event was in 2016.
India are the men’s champions in 2022 after winning the title in South Korea.
