THE HAGUE: The International Court of Justice (ICJ) is currently holding a pivotal six-day hearing into Israel’s 57-year illegal occupation of Palestine.
The landmark event attracted significant attention from around the world, with 12 countries, including Pakistan and the UK, providing legal arguments regarding Israel’s occupation during the fifth day of proceedings.
Acting Law Minister Ahmed Irfan Aslam represents Pakistan and emphasizes the nation’s commitment to upholding Palestinian rights. A total of 52 countries and three human rights organizations are actively participating in the hearing, signaling widespread international interest and concern about the situation in Palestine.
Minister Aslam expressed Pakistan’s unwavering support for Palestinian self-determination, advocated their freedom and the establishment of a two-state solution. He stressed that the ICJ should issue an opinion on Israel’s illegal occupation and withdrawal of Israeli forces from Palestine that would correspond to the sentiments shared by many participating states and human rights organizations.

As the hearing progressed, Minister Aslam emphasized the importance of international law and the role of the ICJ in establishing peace and order in Palestine. He condemned Israel’s continued violations of General Assembly and Security Council resolutions and reiterated that the illegal occupation constituted a grave violation of human rights.
In addition, Minister Aslam emphasized that Israel’s occupation of Palestine is a temporary measure and the country must comply with its obligations under international law. He emphasized that no state can benefit from its mistakes and stressed the need for accountability and adherence to international norms and principles.
