LAHORE: Pakistan Post has stopped booking packages for the United States for a month, causing the country a massive loss of hundreds of thousands of dollars, it was revealed on Monday.
The orders of those who had sent the goods through e-commerce were also canceled due to the closure of the reservation by Pakistan Post.
This development not only suspended the trade of Pakistani products in the US but also strained the national exchequer.
“The reason for the closure of the bookings is non-payment of compensation to the US shipping companies,” sources told Pakistan Post.
The attendant said that the reservation was stopped due to insufficient packaging of the package.
The Directorate General of Pakistan Post, in an inquiry report, pointed to several deficiencies as the reason for the return of mail from the US, including deficiencies and missing Electronic Advanced Data (EAD) and misclassification of letter items.
It stated that small size registered letters were being sent to the US without generating ITMATT messages or incorrect/incomplete ITMATT messages causing errors and thus facing mail rejection by the USPS.
The directorate said reservation staff also filled in incorrect information in mandatory fields.
Small business owners and e-commerce sellers are demanding that the government take notice and ensure the resumption of shipments to America through Pakistan Post.
In the meantime, the booking of parcels and mail to the UK and other countries continues.
