ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Railways broke records with its latest freight train journey, marking a major milestone in the nation’s transport sector. The historic freight train, which is an impressive 2,500 feet long and contains a whopping fifty cars, has set off on its journey powered by an impressive GE U40 locomotive engine, a railway spokesman said on Friday.
He said that this monumental train journey started from Karachi, the bustling metropolis of Pakistan, with a staggering load of over 3,000 tonnes of cargo destined for Kotri. He added that this monumental initiative not only marks a breakthrough for Pakistan Railways but also promises significant benefits for the nation.
By transferring such a massive amount of cargo by rail, the spokesman said efforts are being made to significantly ease the burden on road traffic, ease congestion, and increase transport efficiency across the country. In addition, he said the shift to rail for freight transport is in line with global efforts to protect the environment as it effectively reduces pollution and carbon emissions associated with traditional road transport modes.
Remarkably, despite its colossal size, he said the freight train achieved remarkable speed, reaching a top speed of 60 km/h and maintaining an impressive average speed of 38 km/h during its journey. Similarly, he noted that the sheer scale of the truck’s capacity is awe-inspiring, capable of carrying goods equivalent to more than 94 22-wheel trucks.
