BEIJING: A Pakistani researcher at the ZJU-Hangzhou Global Scientific and Technological Innovation Center (HIC) in China has developed a rechargeable battery with remarkably fast charging capabilities and an extremely long lifespan.
In an interview, Dr. Mohammed Yousaf emphasized their latest invention, a rechargeable sodium battery, saying, “Driven by the high costs associated with conventional dry batteries and the expensive nature of lithium, which is widely used in batteries worldwide, there is a need for an alternative solution.”
Sodium, which is abundant and inexpensive, shows considerable potential as a feasible choice. Yousaf explained that our rechargeable battery, which uses sodium-based technology, can cut prices by 30 to 40%.

The increased discharge rate and longevity make it suited for a wide range of applications, including mobile devices, laptops, electric vehicles, and electric bikes. Yousaf also announced his lofty goal of changing long-distance travel by developing a battery capable of powering electric vehicles for distances ranging from 400 to 500 km, a ground-breaking feat in the area.
Dr. Yousaf and his colleagues have made tremendous progress toward commercializing their battery technology. “We have already introduced our battery to the Chinese market,” he went on to say.
