Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that Pakistan wants to use China’s economic model for economic development and strengthen trade and investment ties.
In an interview with China Media Group, the Prime Minister highlighted the strategic importance of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and its transition to a new phase of high-quality development that has significantly advanced Pakistan’s scientific and technological landscape.
“Pakistan wants to increase its exports by taking advantage of China’s vast experience,” Prime Minister Sharif said.
Prime Minister Sharif announced plans to create Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in Pakistan, starting with the first zone in Pakistan’s steel mills. Strategically located near the port and connected by railway, the site will become a center of economic activity.
It extended invitations to Chinese provinces and businesses to participate in these SEZs and promoted joint ventures as a path to shared prosperity.
In agriculture, Prime Minister Shehbaz highlighted Pakistan’s intention to use advanced agricultural technology to increase Pakistan’s production and export capacity.
“By adopting Chinese agricultural innovation, we aim to improve our agriculture and thereby increase our exports.”
The prime minister reiterated the steadfast and enduring Pakistan-China relationship, calling the nations “iron brothers” whose friendship is eternal and deep-rooted.
He declared China as Pakistan’s most reliable ally in the world arena for China’s unwavering support during Pakistan’s difficult times.
Prime Minister Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s adherence to the One China principle and said that this commitment is firm and unwavering. He praised China’s extraordinary transformation into a global power, attributing it to visionary leadership, consistent hard work, and persistent efforts.
Prime Minister’s visit to China – new business prospects for Pakistani entrepreneurs
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met Zhu Zhaojiang, the founder and chairman of Transsion Holdings China, in Shenzhen on Wednesday.
The meeting discussed investment opportunities in Transsion Holdings’ mobile manufacturing unit in Pakistan and interest in four other sectors of the country: mobile phone manufacturing, electric bicycles, modern agriculture and fintech.
In the meeting, Prime Minister Sharif said that the government of Pakistan continues to provide favorable conditions for foreign investors and entrepreneurs. He invited Transsion Holdings to produce locally in Pakistan and export abroad.
He said that the company has a mobile phone manufacturing unit in Pakistan which provides employment to more than 5000 Pakistanis every day.
The company wants to expand its investment in mobile phone manufacturing which will increase its exports from Pakistan.
Federal Minister Ishaq Dar, Khawaja Asif, Ahsan Iqbal, Muhammad Aurangzeb, Abdul Aleem Khan, Jam Kamal, Attaullah Tarar and Minister of State for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja were also present in the meeting.
Prominent businessman of Pakistan mobile phone industry and partner of Transsion Holding in Pakistan Zeeshan Mianoor, CEO of Inovi Telecom, Muzzaffar Paracha, CEO of Airlink Communications and Amir Allawala.
The presence of icons of the Pakistani mobile phone industry in the meeting gave a boost to the growing mobile phone industry in Pakistan. Important initiatives to promote local production and exports in this sector are expected to be discussed under Chinese auspices.
