Pakistan slip down in T20I rankings

DUBAI: Pakistan dropped two points in T20Is after the annual renewal announced by the International Cricket Council (ICC).
In the updated T20I rankings, India (264) is still high but has dropped 11 points with second-placed Australia (257) ahead of third-placed England (252).
South Africa (250) also jumped two places from sixth to fourth and are now just two points behind England.
Sixth-placed West Indies (249) are two runs ahead of Pakistan.
“The ranking update only takes into account the team’s performance after May 2021, the 2-1 series victory by Virat Kohli’s Indian cricket team, which ended in January 2021, has been excluded from the ranking period,” he said.
“All results from May 2021 to May 2023 are worth 50 per cent, and in the next 12 months, including Australia’s final World Test Championship victory, then 100 per cent.”
There was no change in the ODI rankings, with India extending their top-order lead over Australia (116).
Third-place South Africa (112) closed the gap on Australia to four places, while Pakistan (106) and New Zealand (101) also rounded out the top five.
In seventh place is Sri Lanka (93), just two wins behind England (95), while other teams in the top ten include Bangladesh (86), Afghanistan (80) and the West Indies (69).
Meanwhile, Australia’s stunning 209-run win over India in last year’s Test World Cup final at the Oval helped them leapfrog their rivals in the Test rankings.
India (120) are second, four points behind Australia, while England (105) are third in the ICC Test rankings.
South Africa (103), New Zealand (96), Pakistan (89), Sri Lanka (83), West Indies (82) and Bangladesh (53) remained unchanged in fourth to ninth position.
