LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Sunday announced the Green Shirts’ squad for the upcoming ACC Women’s T20 Asia Cup which is set to begin in Dambulla, Sri Lanka, on July 19.
A four-day training camp took place in Karachi where the players trained after which the squad was selected.
Nida Dar will lead the team in the T20 Asia Cup while she will have experienced players like Aliya Riaz, Fatima Sana and others at her disposal.
Ayesha Zafar, Natalia Parvaiz, Rameen Shamim, Sadaf Shamas, Umm-e-Hani and Waheeda Akhtar were left out from Pakistan’s squad for the Asia Cup despite touring to England for a T20I series last month, which the Green Shirts lost.
A training camp for the preparations for the Asia Cup will begin in Karachi on July 5 and the players will continue training there until their departure for Sri Lanka which will be on July 16.
Head coach Mohammad Wasim will be supervising the camp and he will have the support of Abdur Rehman, (spin bowling coach), Junaid Khan (assistant coach – bowling) and Hanif Malik (assistant coach – fielding).
It is worth mentioning that Pakistan is in Group A alongside arch-rivals India, Nepal and the UAE and will play the most anticipated match of the Asia Cup against India on July 19.
Group B consists of hosts Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Thailand and Malaysia. The semi-finals between the top two teams for each group will be played on July 26.
