On Wednesday, Pakistan released a strong statement condemning Iran’s “unprovoked violation of its airspace.”
According to a Foreign Office (FO) statement posted after midnight, the event resulted in the “death of two innocent children and the injury of three girls.”
The statement did not specify where the casualties occurred. However, Iranian official media said that the attack occurred in the border town of Panjgur, Balochistan.
Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency reported that the “focal point of this operation was the region known as Kouh-Sabz (green mountain)” in Balochistan.
“Two key strongholds of the Jaysh al-Dhulm (Jaish al-Adl) terrorist group in Pakistan” has been “specifically targeted and successfully demolished by a combination of missile and drone attacks” , according to the Tasnim news agency.
Local authorities stated that they had also received information on such an attack, but provided no further specifics. According to reports from the neighborhood, a missile struck a mosque, causing partial damage and injured some persons.
The strike occurred after Iran launched missile attacks on “spy headquarters” and “terrorist” sites in Syria and Iraq’s autonomous Kurdistan region.
According to AFP, hours before the walkout, Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar met with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
The FO strongly condemned the “violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty,” calling it “completely unacceptable” and warning that it “could have serious consequences.”It expressed worry that the “illegal act” occurred despite the presence of various established channels of contact between Pakistan and Iran, adding that a “strong protest has already been lodged with the concerned senior official in the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tehran”.
The statement read: “Additionally, the Iranian Charge d’affaires has been called to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to convey our strongest condemnation of this blatant violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty and that the responsibility for the consequences will lie squarely with Iran.”
“Pakistan has consistently stated that terrorism is a shared concern to all countries in the region and demands joint action. Such unilateral actions are inconsistent with good neighborly relations and can substantially weaken bilateral trust and confidence,” the statement stated.
