Islamabad: National productivity organisation (NPO) and Asian productivity Organization Pakistan (APO) Japan are organizing an international workshop on value addition of precious stones to meet international standards on April 22-25, 2024. The workshop is expected to be attended by 18 foreign participants from member countries APO includes Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, 11 local participants and an international resource session from Thailand.
The main objective of this program is to review international standards for gemstone products, provide comprehensive knowledge of cutting, polishing, design and heating techniques, as well as to improve understanding of best practices and technological developments in the gemstone chain of production, standardization and trade.
Chief Guest, Federal Secretary for Industries and Production and Director, APO Pakistan, Mr. Waseem Ajmal Chaudhry, while addressing a four-day international seminar on Valuation of Gemstones to meet international standards, appreciated the role of APO in the development of Asia. -The Pacific region gives the region. He further discussed that it is time to renew our commitment and strive to achieve APO’s vision of “Inclusive, Innovation-Based Productivity Growth in Asia-Pacific”.
He welcomed the international delegation and thanked the APO and NPO for addressing this important issue. He also said that in partnership with APO, Pakistan’s long-standing productivity problem could be solved.
He expressed this view while speaking at the opening ceremony of the International Workshop on Valuation of Gemstones to meet international standards on Monday, April 22, 2024. The northern and northwestern parts of Pakistan are covered by three world ranges, the Hindu Kush, the Himalayas, and the Karakorum, which includes the Swat region and Mingora.
The National Productivity Organization (NPO) helps fulfill and strengthen the mandate of the Ministry through the vision of “Economically Productive and Globally Competitive Pakistan”. NPOs are responsible for productivity and quality improvement in Pakistan.
Mr. Nobutsugu Miyama, Program Officer of Asian Productivity Organization, Tokyo, Japan expressed his sincere gratitude to the Government of Pakistan for their sincere efforts to continue the productivity Initiative. He also appreciated the efforts of the APO Country Director for his strong leadership and support; Chairman of NPO for great interests. He also addressed the APO & NPO team for efforts to increase productivity in the region. mr. Miyama reminded the participants about APO’s journey and major achievements in the region.
Mr. Muhammad Alamgir Chaudhry, CEO, NPO, thanked the chief guest and APO Program Officer for their presence and time. He welcomed all the participants and speakers. He said the vision of the Ministry of Home Affairs is “Achieving Efficient, Sustainable and Inclusive Industrial Development”. Pakistan is a naturally blessed country with natural mineral deposits and 18 types of gemstones that are widely used in decoration. The Resource Person of Gems and Jewelry Institute of Thailand will share best practices with the world’s leading community in the Gemstone industry.
