GENEVA: The 9th Geneva Engage Awards saw the Permanent Mission of Pakistan to the UN in Geneva take first prize in the’social media engagement’ category.
The awards, which were given out on Thursday by the Swiss-Maltese non-governmental organization Diplomatic Foundation, honored finalists in a number of categories, including accessibility, effective and creative events, permanent representations, non-governmental organizations and associations, and international organizations.
The European Union, France, Italy, Norway, Kazakhstan, Russia, the United Kingdom, the United States, and other Permanent Missions were among those that also took home honors.
Bilal Ahmad, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva and Ambassador, dedicated the prize to the efforts of his colleagues at the Mission and his predecessor, Khalil Hashmi, who is currently Pakistan’s Ambassador in Beijing.
The ambassador also praised Pakistan’s Foreign Office for its committed and persistent work in the area of digital and public diplomacy, which was producing hopeful and beneficial outcomes.
He also expressed gratitude to the Diplomatic Foundation for the Pakistani Mission’s distinction.
The Geneva Engage Awards honor the dynamic connections that exist between Geneva and global populations impacted by policies related to development, migration, human rights, and climate change.
The Diplomatic Foundation was founded in 2002 and aims to strengthen the position of small and developing nations in international diplomacy by providing capacity building and training for officials in areas such as internet governance, cyber security, data, artificial intelligence, and other cutting-edge technology challenges.
It has effectively trained more than 7,500 alumni from 208 nations and territories over the years.
