Islamabad: Pakistan’s exports to seven regional countries have increased by 20.61 percent in the first eleven months of the financial year (2023-24) as compared to the corresponding month of the previous year.
China ranks first among Pakistan’s exports to neighboring countries, ahead of other countries such as Bangladesh and Afghanistan.
Pakistan has border trade with its more distant neighbors Sri Lanka, India, Nepal and Maldives.
Pakistan’s exports to China rose 35.61 percent to $2,553,481 million in the first eleven months of this year from $1,889,195 million last year, while exports to Afghanistan rose 6.12 percent to $507,935 million from $478,614 million.
Bangladesh’s exports to Bangladesh fell 14.56 percent to $605,744 million from $709,050 this year, while exports to Sri Lanka rose 36.68 percent to $361,690 million from $264,608.
Exports to India increased to $3.552 million from $0.769 million last year.
Also, exports to Nepal decreased by 7.83 percent from $2.769 million to $2.552 million, while exports to Maldives increased by 8.99 percent from $7.724 million to $8.419 million.
On the other hand, imports from seven countries in the region recorded an increase of 33.27 percent in the past year to $ 12,454,030 million compared to $ 9,344,623 million last year.
Imports from China during July-May 2023-24 were recorded at $12,148,884 million against $9,039,079 million during July-May 2022-23, registering a growth of 56.33 percent.
Among other countries, imports from India were $189.075 million against $173.499 million, an increase of 8.97 percent, while imports from Afghanistan decreased by 33.56 percent from $15.277 million to $10.150 million.
Meanwhile, imports from Sri Lanka rose to $53.629 million from $44.295 million, while Pakistan’s imports from Bangladesh rose to $51.673 million from $71.711 million last year.
It was also reported that imports from Nepal to the country decreased by 50.13 percent from 0.734 million dollars to 0.366 million dollars.
