LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has bought a multi-story building near the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore to PKR for $4 billion, aiming to solve the long-term housing problem for local and international cricketers.
According to details, the high-rise building was built on top of the Gaddafi Stadium. The PCB opposed it due to safety concerns, and a legal dispute also arose when the construction work was halted. Builders also take money from people for apartments; when stuck, he offered to sell the building to the PCB.
There has been progress on the project during Zaka Ashraf’s recent tenure as chairman, but sources say he has now officially bought PCB for four billion rupees. The building is currently incomplete as an apartment complex, so they needs to be renovated to become a hotel.
The project will cost a lot of money, but basic accommodation for foreign and local cricketers will be nearing completion. Currently, the team stays in a local five-star hotel that costs millions of PCB rupees.
The road from the hotel to the stadium was closed during the match, causing inconvenience to the public. Close housing will help everyone and save money.
It should be noted that the National Cricket Academy (NCA) also has good quality accommodation, but the number of rooms is not enough for the team to stay together. PCB is also planning to build a hotel near the National Bank Stadium in Karachi after Lahore.
