LAHORE: Despite having a foreign coach for the national team, Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has opted to go to the United States with his personal coach for the 2024 T20 World Cup.
Sources said that Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officials have allowed Amir to take his personal trainer, whose expenses are being paid by the pacer himself.
However, the cricket body said it has taken the necessary steps in this regard.
Bowler took the coach not only to the United States, but also on a tour of Ireland and England.
Sources said while sharing several reasons for Pakistan’s performance as a team in the 20-team tournament that led to their early exit.
Amir took 18 wickets in the Super Over, one of the biggest upsets of the mega event, after which Pakistan’s chance to reach the Super 8 stage was drastically reduced.
Playing in the T20 World Cup for the first time, minnows USA defeated Pakistan in the final, restricting the former champions to 13 runs. The debutants, along with India, advanced from Group A to the Super 8 stage.
Another reason why team members get distracted is because they travel with family members during the trip.
Apart from the players and support staff, a group of 26-28 members of cricketers’ wives and family members travel together with the team for the mega event.
Mohammad Rizwan, Fakhar Zaman, Imad Wasim and Wahab Riaz, along with their wives and children, traveled to the United States with the parents and brother of violinist Babar Azam, the Green Men. Haris Rauf, traveling with his wife.
Team players and their families hold parties and get together after the game.
