LAHORE: Franchise owners Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Pakistan Super League (PSL) have tentatively agreed to host PSL Season 10 play-offs and finals in England.
Sources reveal that the PSL franchise has sought assurances from the PCB to indemnify them against potential financial losses associated with playing matches abroad. The PCB has acknowledged this issue and is working on a compensation framework to mitigate the risk.
In a recent virtual meeting, Peshawar and Quetta were discussed as locations for the 10th season. The move is part of a larger strategy to diversify PSL venues and bring top-level cricket to more cities in Pakistan. Additionally, the HBL PSL 2025 schedule, which aims to end the tournament window, is on the agenda.
In addition, PCB has made strategic offers to franchise owners in securing marquee players for many years.
While PCB plans to expand the league to eight teams in 2026, HBL PSL 2025 will be the last edition to feature six teams. PCB believes that aligning HBL PSL and Indian Premier League (IPL) in the same April / May window will create a synergy that will benefit the sport, players and fans.
An additional proposal discussed between the PCB and the franchise owners is to allow each franchise to sign players directly, along with the support of marquee players offered by the PCB.
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi said that Peshawar and Quetta are likely to be the venues for HBL PSL depending on favorable and supportive conditions in these cities. The PCB aims to integrate these cities into the national cricket calendar in the 2024-25 season by rewarding the domestic game, developing local talent and expanding the reach of the game.
