Karachi: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi said on Tuesday that quality domestic cricket plays an important role in improving international competitiveness.
PCB COO Salman Naseer, CFO Jawed Murtaza, Selection Committee Analyst Bilal Afzal, Director of International Cricket Usman Wahla and other officials attended the three-hour session at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore.
“Domestic cricket will be prioritized at all levels by ensuring regular organization of tournaments from top clubs to the national level,” Naqvi said in the meeting.
“Top coaches will nurture emerging talents to improve their skills through performance, fitness and skill-based development,” he added.
Focusing on raising the standard of domestic cricket will help bridge the gap with international cricket. “
Naqvi outlined a plan to create regular tournaments from local clubs to the national level, where elite coaches will develop young talents based on their performance, fitness and skill. Also, a head coach will be appointed to improve the coaching standards.
He said the selection for the national team will be based on fitness and skills without compromise.
“The selection of players will strictly follow fitness and professional criteria without any exception,” Naqvi said, stressing the need to introduce new talent to the global arena.
“Investment in emerging talent will strengthen grassroots cricket and yield profitable results,” the PCB chief said.
The domestic cricket structures of India, New Zealand, Australia and England were also reviewed in the meeting.
