MULTAN: Workers and people from various walks of life formed a long human chain and marched from the district council meeting to Chowk Katcheri on Thursday to express solidarity with government agencies and punish those involved in the May 9 vandalism.
Then the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Captain (retired) Rizwan Qadir led a team of leaders and visited the memorials of the martyrs where they performed Fateha and paid great respect to the martyrs.
The DC said the vandals’ attack on the martyrs’ memorial and the government building on May 9 last year was motivated by personal grievances, adding that those involved would soon receive their punishment.
Earlier, the rally organized by the district government was led by the Additional Deputy Revenue Commissioner (ADCR) Faizaan Ahmad Riaz, City Police Officer Sadiq Ali, ADCG Muhammad Saif, AC City Seemal Mushtaq and AC Sadar Amir Iftikhar among the district administration, civil society organizations and citizens society.
Participants chanted slogans condemning those involved in the vandalism of May 9, 2023, when the martyrs’ memorial was vandalized with a malicious design to turn people against government institutions.
However, ADCR said that people have come together to support the government institutions and honor the martyrs of the Pakistan Armed Forces who sacrificed their lives to defend the country against outside forces and the martyred policemen against crime in the society.
He praised the security forces and the police for foiling the vandal attempt that took place on May 9 last year and said that the entire nation is united with the armed forces.
