Lahore: Pakistan captain Babar Azam has said that people have many problems with the strike rate and he does not understand the problem because he is just another player who plays according to the situation.
The 29-year-old Azam, despite being named in almost every T20 cricket record, is often criticized for not playing according to match conditions and has been accused of lowering his strike rate.
However, the 29-year-old believes that the process and cricket is played by what happens on the ground. According to Azam, if wickets fall in the first overs, you can’t go back to hit hard.
“Cricket is getting faster and we have to keep up with it. You can’t always please others, I’m just focused on how to win the game for my team. I’m worried about how to build the innings and maintain the strike rate,” Azam said in the podcast.
“Look, the strikeout rate is another story, making an innings and winning the match are two different things. If you win the game, both are closed. How to play the first six overs and the remaining overs is step by step. I know my cricket, I know what which should be added and how to change my style. “The main thing is that if the situation is right, I will play freely.”
He then added that if you have a wicket in hand, you are completely free to play aggressive and fast cricket. He also said that no matter how he plays, there are always people who will struggle with his strike rate.
“Sometimes you can’t play freely because you have to build an innings and you have a wicket in hand, you might as well play 200 runs,” added Azam.
“I don’t understand why people have a problem with the strikeout rate, they will say 150. I should be 170. If I play 170, they will say I should be 200. Every player has his own style of play, and I don’t want to compare myself with anyone .”
