PESHAWAR: Peshawar Institute of Cardiology (PIC-MTI) has introduced a pioneering minimally invasive technique for cardiac surgery using small incisions (incisions) to suit patients who are concerned about large cuts, pain and large wounds.
This innovative approach marks a major advance in the field of cardiac surgery and was successfully performed by an experienced cardiac surgical team, spokesman Riffat Anjum said here on Friday.
The introduction of this minimally invasive technique at the Peshawar Institute of Cardiology represents a significant step towards achieving compliance with international standards for the treatment of heart diseases. Dr. Muhammad Tariq, assistant professor and head of the cardiac surgery team, emphasized that this approach eliminates the need for a complete sternum incision, a common practice in traditional heart surgery.
He said patients who undergo the procedure can expect reduced pain and discomfort and a faster recovery time, allowing them to quickly return to their daily routines and small scars from the wound, which is also cosmetically superior.
According to Dr. Tariq, this treatment method will be used for a number of cardiac procedures, including bypass and valve surgeries and surgeries targeting heart defects.
Dr. Abdul Nasir, assistant professor and head of PCI’s cardiac surgery department, emphasized the reduced risk of infection associated with small-incision surgery and its importance in improving patient outcomes. He reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to providing the people of the province and the country access to the highest international standards of treatment.
Apart from introducing minimally invasive technique, PIC has introduced various cutting-edge and international standard treatment methods for cardiac care, benefiting not only the local people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa but also patients from other provinces and neighboring countries like Afghanistan, which makes us proud
