ISLAMABAD: Head of ENT Department of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Prof. Dr. Altaf Hussain has said that 6 cochlear implant surgeries have been performed in PIMS in the last two days, cochlear implant surgeries are mainly performed on children who are born with Dr. Altaf Hussain said that cochlear implant surgery is an expensive surgery, the cost of the device used in it is around 30 to 45 lakh rupees. It is a difficult surgery and very expensive. Due to this, people cannot even afford and deafness is very high in Pakistan, according to the WHO report of 2018, there are about one crore people in Pakistan who are suffering from deafness and one patient after every ten thousand patients. It may happen that there is a lack of hearing, in Europe, this plant is installed in people suffering from deafness, but this facility is not available in Pakistan, Bait-ul-Mal requires help in cochlear implant in some hospitals and centers, but it is not available. Dr. Altaf Hussain further informed that six cochlear implant surgeries were performed last year as well, these cochlear implant surgeries are done with the support of International Medical Relief Agency (IMRA). It performs cochlear implant surgeries in cities and its chairman is Dr. Haroon Khan and the surgeon is Dr. Naveed Ahmed who comes from the UK and performs these surgeries in different cities of Pakistan. Dr. Altaf Hussain further said that the poor people of Pakistan benefited a lot from these surgeries and especially the doctors who saw and learned the whole process, are trying to get the government to sponsor it. Executive Director PIMS Prof. Imran Sikander and Prof. Dr. Amjad Chaudhary were also present. started and thus they can become a successful part of the society, Dr. Imran Sikandar also said that he will try as much as possible to ensure that this facility continues in Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) and for this he We will also talk to the government and try hard to remove the lack of funds.
