LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif said on Monday that the Punjab government has started implementing eco-friendly schemes ahead of Dayer Day.
In his speech on Earth Day 2024, the CM said that Earth Day is being observed at the divisional and district level in Punjab and said the ‘No Plastic’ campaign was launched today. He said that the use of plastic bags will be banned in Punjab from June 5.
The CM said that the message of ‘No Plastic’ was spread on Earth Day and a special national and social media campaign was launched in this regard. This is an appeal to people such as shopkeepers, malls, restaurants and bakeries to stop using plastic bags, improve human health and contribute to the elimination of smog. He urged the public not to use plastic bags and other plastic products, especially food and drink containers at home.
The Prime Minister also asked citizens and the media to focus on important issues to protect the environment and human health and help this campaign succeed. In addition to the curriculum, special lectures and educational seminars were held for students and educational institutions to improve the environment on Earth Day, he said.
Dyer’s Day is a day to realize that if the earth is destroyed, no man or anything will survive. He tells every citizen that they can extend the life of their house by planting trees and not using shopping bags.
The CM said the toxic fumes produced by burning plastic bags and other items were spreading cancer and other diseases and added that industrial toxins were poisoning the water, causing stomach, liver and kidney diseases. He said environmental improvements such as new hospitals and treatment facilities and largest estates in the history of Punjab are part of the government’s efforts to protect and improve human health and livelihood.
He concluded that the use of electric buses, environmentally friendly fuel, and modern technology and methods will solve environmental problems.
