Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved the amendment to the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), 2016.
According to details, the creation of the Digital Rights Protection Agency (DRPA) was approved under the PECA Act 2024.
In a document approved by the Cabinet Law Reform Committee, sources said the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunications has considered setting up a Digital Rights Protection Authority (DRPA) in PECA 2016 to address dynamic digital vulnerabilities.
Sources also said that the DRPA will be an important step for the protection and protection of digital rights and can play an important role in ensuring the protection of citizens’ rights in the digital world.
DRPA will advise the government on digital rights issues, provide education on online safety and responsible internet use, work with social media platforms to ensure compliance. Other DRPA functions include regulating online content, investigating violations, and prosecuting criminals.
Sources said the DRPA can call people to testify, issue subpoenas, sign contracts and create regulations to enforce digital rights laws. Through these actions, the DRPA will create a safe and secure digital environment while improving user safety and protecting basic online rights.
