ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif accompanied by key cabinet members visited General Headquarters (GHQ) Rawalpindi on Friday. The Prime Minister was received by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Syed Asim Munir, and presented with a guard of honor. A floral wreath was laid at Yadgar-e-Shuhada by the Prime Minister to pay tribute to the martyrs.
During the visit, the prime minister and members of the government engaged in discussions with the military leadership on issues of national security, regional stability, and military preparedness. They were informed about the current security environment, the spectrum of threats, the response to security threats, and ongoing counter-terrorism operations.
The Prime Minister and members of the Cabinet appreciated the professionalism, operational readiness, and sacrifices of the Pakistan Army in the war against terrorism and appreciated the dedication of the Pakistan Army in protecting the territorial integrity of the country and ensuring peace and stability.
The Prime Minister assured that the government will provide all the means necessary to ensure the operational readiness of the armed forces. He said that Pakistan was destined to rise and the role of the armed forces in ensuring the peaceful rise of Pakistan could not be overemphasized.
The COAS thanked the Prime Minister for visiting and reposing confidence in the Army. He affirmed that the Pakistan Army will continue to live up to the nation’s expectations and will firmly support the government in addressing the security challenges facing Pakistan.
The visit concluded with the civilian and military leadership reiterating their commitment to advance national interests and work together for a prosperous and secure Pakistan.
