Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Monday ordered the immediate dissolution of the Pakistan Public Works Department (PWD) due to years of inefficiency and corruption.
The Prime Minister is addressing a high-level meeting on reducing government and infrastructure spending on media spending.
In the meeting, the Prime Minister observed that Mr. PWD as a department is unable to achieve his target and asked for an alternative mechanism for the development projects entrusted to Mr. PWD.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Minister of Planning Ahsan Iqbal, Minister of Finance and Revenue Muhammad Aurangzeb, Minister of Economy Ahad Khan Chema, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah, Minister of State for Revenue, Planning Commission. Deputy chairman Jehanzeb Khan and other senior officials.
The Prime Minister received a report prepared by a committee headed by Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission Jehanzeb Khan to reduce government expenditure.
The council recommends eliminating some government agencies and consolidating others.
The Prime Minister instructed the committee to finalize this recommendation.
