LAHORE: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday said that Allama Muhammad Iqbal dreamed of a ‘Pakistan’ that would be a cradle of peace, political tolerance and brotherhood and emphasized on renewing the commitment to achieve Iqbal’s vision through hard work.
He said that Allama Iqbal wanted the youth to bring the country to the pinnacle of progress and development with their constructive attitude.
In a message to mark the 86th death anniversary of Dr Muhammad Iqbal, the Prime Minister said that the entire nation prayed for the high dignity of Allama’s departed soul on that day and paid rich tributes to his contributions.
“Dr. Muhammad Iqbal emphasized the unity of the Muslim Ummah through his thoughts and teachings. He particularly targeted the youth and played an important role in making them aware of their ancestors’ sacrifices, prestige and forgotten heritage,” PM Office Media Wing quoted the Iqbal’s philosophy of self-hood (Khudi) was a beacon of light for all and by imitating his philosophy one could achieve excellent qualities of humanity, he said, adding that not only modern universities in the region but all over the world were also conducting research on his philosophy and teachings.
The Prime Minister further said that Iqbal’s verses and writings in Persian and Urdu were popular in the world.
Allama Iqbal dreamed of a separate homeland for Muslims in the Indo-Pak subcontinent, which was realized day and night by Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and other Muslim League leaders.
