ISLAMABAD (APP) – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday ordered submission of a report regarding speedy completion and transparent provision of relief to people affected by recent torrential rains across the country.
He also directed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to conduct a joint survey report in collaboration with the provinces, besides strengthening collaboration with the provinces to face future calamities.
The Prime Minister also asked for a report on the implementation of his directive in the previous tenure regarding the technical improvement of the NDMA, the PM Office Media Wing said in a press release.
The Prime Minister received a detailed briefing from the NDMA on rescue and rehabilitation activities in the wake of the recent torrential rains as well as weather forecasting and preparedness. The meeting was attended by Minister for Economic Affairs and State Administration Ahad Khan Cheema, Chairman NDMA Lt. Gen. Inam Haider Malik and relevant senior officials. Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal attended the meeting through a video link.
The meeting was briefed on the recent damage, rescue efforts and the distribution of the aid amount. NDMA with assistance from provinces; especially Balochistan will soon complete a collective verification survey of the number of complete and partially damaged houses.
According to the Prime Minister’s order, a total of 766,000 kg of dry ration will be distributed in Gwadar by March 24, out of which about 388,000 kg of dry ration has been distributed till March 16. was further informed.
The Prime Minister ordered that the aid process should be completed immediately, besides ensuring transparency in its distribution. With the early completion of the joint survey, assistance should be provided only to the affected people, he stressed, adding that the affected persons from the recent rains cannot be left in despair and their support is among the top priority of the government.
The meeting was further informed about the weather forecast during April to June and July to September in the current season and the preparedness of NMDA. The Prime Minister was also briefed about the aid sent by NDMA to the affected in Gaza. A total of 320 tons of relief goods have been shipped since October.
