Police foiled a terrorist attack at Jhangi Dera Ghazi Khan checkpost late on Wednesday, police told.
According to regional police officer Sajjad Hassan Khan, the Jhangi check post is located on the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa-Punjab border in Taunsa district.
He said the attackers wanted to capture the checkpoint but escaped in the dark after the attack was beaten by the police.
According to the Punjab Police, 15-20 terrorists were involved in the attack.
‘Second attack on checkpoint after 2 months’
This is the second attack on the check post in two months, Punjab police said.
“Terrorists of banned organization failed to attack Jhangi police post (Hazrat Umar Farooq) after two months,” Punjab Police said in a tweet earlier on X.
Taking advantage of the darkness of the night, 15-20 terrorists attacked with modern weapons including rocket launchers, hand grenades, laser light weapons, as Inspector Mohiuddin and security personnel retreated.
DG Khan RPO and district police officers reached the spot with a stronger force as soon as they got information about the attack.
“During the attack, seven personnel were injured in the fierce battle and admitted to the hospital for treatment.”
The note further stated that only two days ago the RPO and DPO had visited the control post and informed the posted personnel about the threat of attack and prepared defensive measures.
Punjab Inspector General Dr Usman Anwar praised the personnel posted at Jhangi check post for successfully manning the post.
“Punjab Police is alert and will not allow terrorists to succeed in their evil intentions,” IG Punjab was quoted as saying.
‘It is our duty to eradicate terrorism’
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz condemned the terrorist attack on the check post and paid tribute to the brave police team who fought against terrorists.
The Chief Minister directed the concerned authorities to provide the best treatment facilities for injured personnel.
“It is our duty to eradicate terrorism,” he said, sharing his determination for peace in the province.
