Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has decided to expand the federal cabinet after the budget and officially invited the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) to join the government.
Senior political leaders of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and allied parties will join the cabinet, according to a report published today.
Neshir announced that the Prime Minister had started work on appointing new cabinet members and once again invited the PPP to participate in cabinet discussions on the issue.
After the leadership’s decision, the matter will go to the party’s highest decision-making body, the Central Executive Committee (CEC), which will take the final call.
According to the report, federal minister Ahsan Iqbal was given an important task by the PML-N leadership, who contacted Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti and Qamar Zaman Kaira over the issue.
It should be noted that after the elections, the PPP decided not to join the PML-N alliance at the Center and in Punjab, but chose Shehbaz Sharif as the Prime Minister.
The PPP initially decided not to accept the ministry and was limited to constitutional and parliamentary positions only, based on the formula agreed with the PML-N.
However, the party recently changed its mind and said it is willing to join the Punjab government if it is offered a “fair share”.
Senior PPP leader and Senate Chairman Yousuf Raza Gilani made the announcement while talking to reporters at his residence in Multan last month.
Party leaders said they might join Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s cabinet if given a seat in the province.
