Islamabad: PRCS (HHR) in ties with the Intl Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) completed distribution of wheat to support livelihood of people affected by 2022 monsoon floods.
As part of the relief initiative, 60 cows were distributed to flood survivors in each of the five districts of Sindh including Larkana, Gambar Shahdadkot, Dadu, Khairpur, and Shikarpur. In addition, 60 bulls were distributed in Jaffarabad district of Balochistan.
120 grains will be distributed in Dera Ismaili Khan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Dera Ghazi Khan district of Punjab in the coming days.
The distribution of buffaloes is carried out in special ceremonies held in the districts mentioned above. The measure was formulated by HHR Secretary General Muhammad Abaidullah Khan; Piwi Ophoff, Head of Country Delegation, HMRC Pakistan; Heads of HHR respective district offices, HHR and MHHS staff and volunteers, community representatives, and dignitaries.
Speaking on the occasion, HHR Chairman Sardar Shaheed Ahmad Laghari thanked the HHR staff and volunteers for their tireless efforts to provide much-needed relief to the flood victims. He said HHR intends to continue its support to the community through various activities, including cash assistance, housing, food assistance, health care, and sanitation promotion. He also called on Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) to play an active role in helping the affected communities.
“We remain committed to serving humanity and committed to supporting communities on the road to recovery and resilience,” he said.
Piwi Ophoff, Head of Delegation, IFRC Pakistan, praised the team involved in helping those in need. According to him, “The distribution of cattle to flood victims is one of the main initiatives of the national community to improve the lives of the affected people. HMHS aims to support the national community in creating opportunities to survive floods, improve their livelihoods, and increase their resilience to disasters. “
Beneficiaries and community elders praised the HHR and MHHS initiative as it will strengthen the lives of the people who were devastated by the 2022 floods.
