Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari stressed the need to develop business and trade relations with Bosnia and Herzegovina by opening banks, trading local currency and promoting barter trade between the two countries.
The President made these comments today in an interview with the Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina (B&H), Mr. Emin Kohodarevic, in Aiwan-e-Sadr.
Welcoming the Ambassador, the President said that Pakistan’s relations with Bosnia and Herzegovina are based on historical ties and friendship that has been going on for almost three years. He said both countries should continue bilateral relations and cooperation to further explore ways of working together in areas of mutual interest.
The Ambassador said that his country wants to deepen relations in the fields of economy, security and culture with Pakistan. He said that Bosnia and Herzegovina has a wide scope of economic cooperation for Pakistani businessmen in various sectors such as food, tourism and textile production.
The Ambassador thanked the government and people of Pakistan for their support to Bosnia and Herzegovina during the war in the 1990s. He also sought Pakistan’s support for Bosnia and Herzegovina’s draft resolution on Srebrenica in the UN General Assembly.
The President said Pakistan would consider Bosnia’s request favorably and expressed Pakistan’s solidarity with the victims of the 1995 Srebrenica massacre.
The Ambassador also extended an invitation to the President to visit Bosnia and Herzegovina to strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries.
