Islamabad: We are celebrating the International Day Against Drugs and Illicit Trafficking with the theme “Tell the Evidence: Invest in Prevention”. Today, Pakistan is strengthening its efforts to prevent drug and human trafficking and showing the importance of taking concrete steps to eradicate drugs from our society.
Drug production and smuggling not only cause great harm to our youth and their families, but are also a potential source of funding for criminal and terrorist elements. Determining the root causes of drug addiction requires an integrated approach involving all stakeholders, including Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs), media, civil society, parents and educators. We must stop the flow of drugs into our society, especially in educational institutions, by targeting drug pushers and traffickers. LEAs should take proactive measures and take strict action against those involved in drug trafficking.
Addressing the dangers of drug addiction requires creating awareness, strengthening drug laws, investing in prevention and treatment, and engaging communities. We also need to educate our youth about the harmful effects of drug addiction to save them from this menace. Moreover, we must channel the energy of our youth into healthy and productive activities.
The future of the younger generation is in our hands. Today, I invite every citizen to support the government in its struggle to eradicate drugs from our society. I urge each of you to raise awareness of the harmful effects of drugs on individuals, families, and communities, prioritizing prevention and treatment. I believe that with collective efforts we can achieve a drug free Pakistan. InsyaAllah.
