Lahore and Rawalpindi will host more matches than Karachi in next year’s Pakistan Super League (PSL) season.
According to local media reports, Karachi has been given five matches in the PSL 2025 schedule. Meanwhile, Lahore will have a maximum of 10 matches and Rawalpindi will have eight matches. Multan will also have five matches during the event.
Due to poor attendance last season, Karachi has been given less games compared to this year.
The PSL 2025 playoffs will be held at a neutral venue, most likely England.
During this year’s tournament, Karachi played 11 matches including qualifiers, two Eliminators and the final. Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore and Pindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi hosted nine matches each. Known as the Holy City, Multan won five matches.
All teams will report on April 7, 2025 with training sessions scheduled for April 11.
Next day, Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators will play in Rawalpindi, while Raja and Multan Sultan will compete in Karachi.
The PSL Board of Directors meeting will be held at the end of May 2024. The meeting will confirm the window and match conditions changes for the next PSL.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has confirmed that the PSL 2025 event window will be from April 7 to May 20, as the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is held in the regular event window.
PCB is also thinking of innovative changes to increase the excitement of PSL matches from the next edition.
One idea among the proposals discussed is to submit two separate team sheets to each team competing in the Tos.
After the draw, teams will select one from the list to be considered as the final playing XI. This initiative is aimed at reducing hardship for marginalized groups.
In addition, another proposal discussed is the use of Power Surge, similar to the Australia’s Big Bash League (BBL).
This rule allows the team to start the Power Play period of two overs anytime between the 11th over and the end of the 11th over.
Only two pitches are allowed outside the circle during this time. Finally, the usual Power Play at the start of the innings will gather in four overs.
