Islamabad: Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Zonal Office Lahore in close collaboration with Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Cyber Crime Wing conducted a successful raid against the franchisee of a mobile phone company based in Raiwind. This franchisee was found to be involved in the illegal issuance of SIM cards.
256 active SIMs were discovered during the raid. The FIA team seized these active SIM cards along with 16 BVS devices as evidence. 01 persons were also detained in the area by the FIA team. The FIA is currently investigating the matter further. The PTA had earlier filed a complaint with the FIA based on information about illegal issuance of SIM cards by a sales channel.
The recent raid is part of the PTA’s ongoing efforts to prevent circumvention of the Multi-Finger Biometric Verification System (MBVS). This unwavering commitment underlines the authority’s determination to combat illegal SIM card issuance.
