ISLAMABAD: The central office of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in Islamabad has been sealed yet again, this time due to inadequate fire and life safety measures.
The Islamabad Metropolitan Corporation took action citing lack of necessary security measures. This development comes amid ongoing legal challenges facing the PTI.
On Monday, Islamabad police arrested PTI Information Minister Raoof Hasan during a raid at the party’s secretariat.
Earlier today, Hasan and 10 other arrested men were handed over to the FIA in two-day physical custody.
The raid resulted in the seizure of computers and other items from the PTI office.
Authorities say the office’s digital media cell has become a hub for international disinformation, working with enemy agencies to carry out anti-Pakistan propaganda.
The PTI condemned the raid and accused law enforcers of seizing affidavits from MNAs and MPAs, which are crucial for verifying party affiliation and could significantly affect the composition of the National Assembly.
The FIA prosecutor argued that the detention was necessary to recover the devices used for the social media accounts, which are essential to the ongoing investigation.
PTI’s lawyer, Latif Khosa, defended Hasan, saying he had no connection with the digital media wing and criticized the authorities for calling party members traitors.
The court ordered the detention of the arrested women, sent them to prison, and at the same time granted physical custody for the arrested men.
