PTI demands EU report on Feb 8 polls to be made public

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has demanded the publication of the European Union (EU) report on the February 8 general elections.
“The EU election report should be made public,” PTI spokesperson Raoof Hasan told a press conference in Islamabad.
Recalling the EU delegation’s visit to Pakistan before the elections, Hasan said the intergovernmental body confirmed the submission of its report on the country’s general elections to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
“The EU message is very sensitive and important,” he added.
The PTI spokesman’s demand comes at a time when the party has again complained of widespread rigging and rigging of election results in last month’s general elections, alleging that its mandate was “stolen”.
Former ruling party founder Imran Khan also wrote to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) urging the global lender to audit the election results before approving any new loans to Islamabad – a demand excused by the Washington-based lender citing its “narrow mandate on economic issues” with by not commenting on domestic political developments.
It is worth knowing that after the February 8 polls, the EU’s chief spokesperson for foreign affairs and security policy, Peter Stano, deplored “the lack of a level playing field due to the inability of some political actors to participate in elections, restrictions on freedom.” assembly, freedom of expression online and offline, restrictions on internet access, as well as allegations of serious interference in the electoral process, including arrests of political activists.
The EU official also called on the relevant authorities to ensure a timely and full investigation of all reported electoral irregularities and to implement the recommendations of the expert electoral mission report.
However, the EU was not the only entity to express concern about the polls, as both the United States and the United Kingdom expressed concerns about a “constrained” electoral environment, followed by allegations of irregularities and interference in the electoral process.
