Islamabad: A district and assembly court in the federal capital acquitted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and several other leaders in a case registered at Aapbara police station.
Magistrate Asirasir Mehmood announced the verdict, which was adjourned last week, during today’s hearing for acquittal.
Other leaders acquitted in the case are Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Sheikh Rashid, Asad Qaiser, Shahriar Afridi, Faisal Javed, Raja Khurram Nawaz and Ali Nawaz Awan.
PTI lawyers Advocate Sardar Masroof and Advocate Ansar Kayani presented evidence on behalf of the former prime minister and others in the case.
A case was registered against the PTI founder and other politicians for protesting the European Union’s Toshakhana 2022 decision, which removed him from his limited tenure.
Since stepping down as prime minister in 2022, Imran Khan has faced numerous allegations ranging from corruption to terrorism.
The PTI founder has been in jail since last August and has been convicted in several cases before the general elections earlier this year. He also juggles dozens of other jobs.
The only obstacle to keeping him behind bars is the case of iddat, or un-Islamic marriage, which the judge is expected to conclude later this month.
