Court Diary
ISLAMABAD: On Monday, Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir presided over the hearing regarding the petition for the recovery of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s International Media Coordinator Ahmad Janjua. Advocate General Islamabad appeared before the court.
At the start of the hearing, lawyer Imaan Mazari informed the court that on July 20 at 4 AM, some individuals in uniform and masked men forcibly took Ahmad Janjua away.
The court inquired if the police officials were in uniform, to which the lawyer responded that some officers were in uniform while others were masked.
Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir remarked that the Advocate General has been summoned, and the Attorney General should also be called. The court has CCTV footage and directed that the Attorney General be summoned by noon. The court stated that they would deal with the matter and questioned whether the IG Police is performing his duty. The court suggested issuing a show-cause notice, emphasizing that if necessary, they would ensure that someone is presented. It was noted that people are going missing in Islamabad, a situation previously seen in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and questioned what the government is doing.
Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir further inquired how much time would be required to recover Ahmad Janjua and instructed the Attorney General to provide complete details by noon.
After a break, the hearing resumed, and PTI Coordinator Ahmad Waqas Janjua was presented in the Anti-Terrorism Court.
At this juncture, the investigating officer informed the court that explosive materials were recovered from Ahmad Waqas Janjua at the time of his arrest and that he has connections with banned organizations. The officer requested a physical remand of the accused for further investigation and recovery.
The investigating officer requested that the court grant a 15-day physical remand for Ahmad Waqas Janjua.
Upon Imaan Mazari’s request, permission was sought for Ahmad Waqas to meet with his wife and lawyers.
Subsequently, the court directed the government lawyer to facilitate Ahmad Janjua’s meeting with his lawyer and family and dismissed the petition for Ahmad Janjua’s recovery. The court approved a 7-day physical remand for Ahmad Waqas Janjua and ordered the PTI Coordinator to be presented again in court on July 29.
