PESHAWAR: Saif, a prominent member of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), announced on Friday that, in accordance with the instructions of PTI founder Imran Khan, the party has made the decision to sit in opposition both at the Centre and in the province of Punjab.
This decision was revealed during a press conference held after a meeting between a PTI delegation and Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) chairman Aftab Khan Sherpao in Peshawar.
Saif conveyed that the PTI is actively engaging with various political parties as directed by Imran Khan. He expressed concerns regarding the election results, highlighting instances where expected winners had their results overturned, posing a significant challenge in the long term.
“These conditions will have consequences for future generations. As per the instructions of PTI founder, we have chosen to assume the role of opposition at the Center and in Punjab,” stated Saif.
Drawing attention to the escalating political tensions, Saif mentioned the protests by Jamaat-e-Islami and the upcoming protest announced by JUI-F. He also noted Mehmood Khan Achakzai’s dissatisfaction with the current political situation.
Saif stated, “Today, Aftab Sherpao listened to us… we have discussed finding a permanent solution to this issue in line with democratic traditions.” He emphasized that the core problem lies in economic instability and that the ongoing election crisis could potentially lead to political instability.
Speaking at the press conference, Qaumi Watan Party Provincial Chairman Sikandar Hayat Khan expressed his party’s objections to the February 8 elections. He acknowledged that the political situation was becoming increasingly complex and viewed the PTI’s initiative to address these issues as a positive step.
“We will discuss the matter within our party and then devise an action plan,” said Sikandar Hayat Khan.
