Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Information Secretary Raoof Hasan believes that the party will not accept Fawad Chaudhry again.
“I have not received the green light from PTI founder Imran Khan to bring Fawad back to the party camp,” Hasan said while answering a question on a private TV channel.
He said he did not foresee the former party leader, who jumped ship on hard times, returning to the party fold. He said that after the political crisis many people tried to join the party but the founders of PTI did not approve.
Hasan said, after the incident of May 9, something more youthful and ideological has emerged in the party.
He expressed doubts about people who broke away from the party when it was most needed in the media.
“I call them rats,” he said, adding that he believed some forces were trying to create disloyalty in the party’s ranks after their failed efforts against the PTI when the party gained power.
Separately, PTI leader Sher Afzal Marwat admitted to a TV news channel that “some friends” were trying to reintroduce Fawad to the party, but party leaders and workers expressed reservations about his return.
After Imran’s arrest from the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on 10 May 2023, PTI Senior Vice President Fawad’s reaction created a stir.
According to the BBC, Fawad grabbed his brother’s hand and told him: “Imran phrya gaya ay, chal aaja [Imran Khan has been arrested. Let’s go.]”
Fawad had announced his “retirement from politics” on May 24, 2023 and parted ways with Imran on May 9, with party workers and supporters immediately attacking public and military facilities across the country following the PTI founder’s arrest.
“I have parted ways with Imran Khan and resigned from the party,” Fawad said in a tweet on May 9, following the exit of the party leader after the vandalism.
