LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has said that public support is essential in the provincial government’s mission to protect the environment.
In his speech on World Environment Day, the Chief Minister stressed the need for a concerted effort to solve environmental problems and urged people to join forces to protect the planet.
Maryam informed that the Punjab government has introduced a comprehensive ban on the use, manufacture, sale and trade of plastic, which will come into force on Wednesday.
Mary emphasized the importance of reducing pollution and promoting environmentally friendly practices, leading to harmful effects on the environment and human health.
The CM highlighted the main objective of the ‘Say No Plastic’ campaign to fight environmental pollution and promote environment-friendly practices.
Maryam said the enforcement of the ban will be strict, with a concerted effort to promote environmentally sustainable alternatives such as paper bags, banning the use of plastic bags in hotels, restaurants and food outlets.
The Prime Minister announced that a special awareness campaign will be launched to inform the public about the harmful effects of plastic pollution and the importance of reducing dependence.
Maryam highlighted the problem of deforestation as the main cause of environmental degradation. He stressed the need for concerted action to preserve the beauty of nature and reduce the negative effects of environmental pollution.
Looking at the severity of the crisis, Maryam said that 40 percent of the earth’s surface is now suffering from pollution. Without immediate intervention, drought could affect three-quarters of the world’s population by 2050, he warned.
The CM appreciated the Punjab government’s efforts to protect the environment and urged individuals to show their willingness to ensure a sustainable future for future generations.
