LAHORE: The Punjab government has announced plans to introduce hybrid and electric buses in the provincial capital Lahore by the end of the year.
The announcement was made in the Punjab Assembly session presided over by Deputy Speaker Zaher Iqbal Chanar on Thursday.
Transport Minister Bilal Akbar announced that 27 electric buses will be provided to Lahore and hybrid buses to other cities.
However, the opposition members are only concerned about the allocation of buses to Lahore.
Retired Brig Mushtaq Ahmed said that other cities of Punjab are neglected in terms of transportation facilities and all financial resources of the province are concentrated in Lahore.
Another opposition member, Rana Aftab, expressed concern over traffic congestion in the city and said that while the government is introducing buses, attention should also be paid to improving the transportation system.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman presented the annual report of Punjab Information Commission and Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC).
After completing the agenda, Mejlis Deputy Chairman Zaher Iqbal adjourned the hearing till 2 pm on Friday.
