Fast bowler Haris Rauf has been disciplined by the Pakistan Cricket Board following an investigation into his refusal to join Pakistan’s Test squad for the 2023-24 tour of Australia.
His central contract was terminated just two days before the start of the ninth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
The premature announcement of the contract termination drew criticism, with Lahore Qalandars owner Sameen Rana expressing his displeasure and saying the timing was unnecessary.
“The timing of this announcement was completely unnecessary. There was no Pakistan series coming up or any emergency that required an announcement two days before the PSL. Whatever the logic, the timing was really bad. It was a huge blow for us psychologically.” him because his whole aim in life is to play for Pakistan,” Rana told ESPNCricinfo.
“Rauf is our premier bowler, our highest run-scorer after Shaheen Afridi. To publicly humiliate him and issue a press release announcing the termination of his central contract, I have never seen that anywhere,” he added.

Rana highlighted a lack of communication, claiming the manner of termination was unprofessional and inconsistent with standard employee treatment.
“I would never treat my employees like that. At least an employee has the right to call, email or message them. None of that happened with Rauf and it was pathetic. It was really bad management,” said Rana.

In addition, Rauf faced another restriction as he was banned from participating in any overseas T20 league until 30 June 2024.
