ISLAMABAD: In an effort to accommodate more passengers, improve commuter amenities, and increase department revenue, Pakistan Railways has added ten more passenger trains nationwide.
An official from the Ministry told APP that “last year the figure of trains is 86 which will be improved after the concerted efforts of the department.” Prior to completing the network of 96 trains over the whole railway network.
According to him, amenities offered to travelers at train stations include waiting areas, concession stands, dining options, wheelchairs, information desks, computer reservation systems, public address systems for updating the public on train arrival and departure times, paramedics and first aid supplies, online reservation systems, passenger insurance services, and revival.
In response to a query, Pakistan Railways has strengthened preventative measures to lower passenger train accidents; in the last three months, there have only been six minor incidents nationwide that resulted in no fatalities.
“Thanks to the department’s effective measures, there were only two train accidents in September, no accidents in October, and four train accidents in November,” he continued.
He claimed that the actions being taken to prevent trespassing at unattended level crossings and unauthorized areas have resulted in a marked drop in accidents.
“Our staff is continuously monitoring the railway tracks across the country and conducting thorough inspection of the trains as the safety of the passengers is the top priority of the department,” he said.
The official said the department was taking several steps to improve the Railway services including the issues related to tracking maintenance that was given top priority.
He said that the punctuality of trains was improved and all the trains were being monitored, reviewed, and rectified while to facilitate the passengers, a mobile application “Pak rail live” has also been launched for real-time tracking of trains.
