Islamabad: Pakistan Railways has directed all Divisional Managers (DMs) to speed up efforts to reclaim 13,972 acres of land illegally occupied by private individuals and various government departments in various parts of the country.
“About 5,809 hectares of land has been captured in Punjab, 1,181 hectares in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 5,948 hectares in Sindh and 1,034 hectares in Balochistan,” a ministry official told private news agency.
He said, the categories of illegally occupied land include commercial, residential, agricultural and various people or units.
In all provinces, 769 hectares are commercial, 3,309 are residential, 5,512 are agricultural and 4,382 are owned by some individuals or departments, the official said.
The official also said that the department has decided to speed up anti-land operations across the country to reclaim land from some individuals, groups and even businesses that have been using it for residential, commercial, and agricultural purposes for decades.
Accordingly, he said, the counter-operation is being launched by the department concerned to search for encroached railway land throughout the railway system and trespassers are being warned.

Pakistan Railway Police, district administration and law enforcement agencies were provided necessary assistance in the counter-attack operation, the official said.
He said it is the responsibility of the railway staff inside the railway station, concerned station masters, inside/around the colony houses, supervisors to work with the Railway Police to control and prevent fresh attacks.
“The anti-crime plan is drawn up quarterly and sent to all concerned in accordance with joint procedures,” said the operation, which will begin with the help of the Railway Police and the district administration of each provincial administration.
