LAHORE: Former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja has shared his thoughts on Pakistan’s white-ball captaincy Babar Azam after the Green Shirts team’s performance in the T20 World Cup 2024.
Pakistan lost their first two matches of the T20 World Cup to the United States (USA) and India, leaving them in a tough spot to qualify for the Super 8 tournament.
Pakistan needed the USA to beat Ireland on June 14, but heavy rain in Lauderhill, Florida halted Pakistan’s T20 World Cup tour there.
In an interview with Ramli Channel, Ramiz was asked to rate Azam’s captaincy as well as Pakistan’s batting and bowling. Batting gave two wins and bowling six.
“Batting could be two, maybe six. I would rate him [Babar] about five because the captain is as good as the team and your captain is in the bowling team and Pakistan in the bowling department. He didn’t do too bad,” he did well, others should also try,” he said.
King also discussed the reasons for Pakistan’s exit from the group stage, where he talked about the return of retired players and Tests in the batting order.
“There is no consistency in the selection. There is preparation because they don’t know who is going to open the round. They are in that test mode for a long time. Then they have to recall retired players. Still it is good in. patch, what do you say about the system?” he said.
Pakistan managed to beat Ireland in the final match of the World Cup, but they were out of the tournament.
