LAHORE: Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has spoken about fast bowler Haris Rauf’s declining form and stressed the need for him to be given leadership.
Speaking on a local news channel, Afridi stressed the importance of not sidelining Rauf but instead giving him the support and mentorship he needs to regain his form.
“Right now Haris Rauf seems to be struggling with his bowling and I don’t really understand that. He needs some honest help at the moment, senior guidance is necessary because we shouldn’t shut him down completely,” Afridi said.
Afridi emphasized that he recognizes Rauf’s potential and past contributions to the team’s success.
“He has done some fantastic performances for Pakistan. The boy will improve even more when he plays longer format cricket. When he plays four-day cricket, his bowling will automatically improve but right now he needs our support,” he added. he added.
Rauf’s form has dipped since the 2023 World Cup and he seems to be struggling in the ongoing Season 9 of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
In the first match against Islamabad United, he conceded 38 runs in three overs while against Quetta Gladiators he picked a wicket and gave away 47 runs.
The ninth season of PSL is in full swing and teams are trying to win the elusive trophy.
The event has already seen four matches with Quetta Gladiators topping the table with two wins in as many matches.
At the end of the remaining matches, the top four teams will qualify for the PSL 9 Playoffs.
