Islamabad: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Khawaja Saad Rafique on Tuesday expressed disappointment that NAB (Corrections) has approved a decision to extend the period of physical custody of suspects from 14 days to 40 days.
“This drastic law cannot be supported and therefore this decision must be withdrawn,” he said.
He said the decision was used for shameful political purposes and many innocent people were victimized.
NAB rules have been changed, the time limit for return of accused in NAB cases has been extended from 14 days to 40 days.
On Monday, Chief Executive Yusuf Raza Gilani signed two new orders, the NAB (Amendment) Order 2024 and the Election Law (Amendment) Order 2024. President Asif Zardari, who is currently in Dubai, signed this order on the advice of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
The decision was taken after the federal cabinet approved an amendment to the decree. Under the amended NAB Act, the sentence for officers convicted of bad faith cases has been reduced from five years to two years.
After the promulgation of the Elections (Amendment) Act, 2024, the election tribunal will admit judges as members in addition to practicing lawyers.
