ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) legal czar Salman Akram Raja on Monday moved the Supreme Court for the restoration of election tribunals.
Raja filed a review petition against the July 4 SC judgment.
According to the petition, the petitioner said that the Supreme Court had directed the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to consult the Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on the appointment of judges to deal with tampering applications and pointed out that the SC in its verdict dated 4 .he did not issue any instructions.
Raja further said in the application that the LHC judges were right in appointing the judges, which had to be accepted by the ECP instead of objecting to it.
Taking stock of the SC’s decision to set aside the LHC verdict, Raja said the apex court had not removed the judges appointed to look into the election rigging, adding that the ECP had no right to oppose the LHC verdict.
“Only the LHC can decide the jurisdiction of election tribunal judges in Punjab,” he added.
