ISLAMABAD: The first-ever two-day ‘Sargodha Citrus Fest’ ended at COMSTECH after a significant number of people attended. The festival displayed approximately 45 citrus fruit varieties and their products. It was co-organized by the University of Sargodha and COMSTECH, and visitors loved the items, particularly citrus fruit-based cakes, drinks, desserts, candies, and green tea, as well as a range of citrus fruit.
Citrus fruit varieties such as Rangpur Lime, Carrizo Citrage, Gada Dahi, Rangpur, Gilgil, Mitha, Pishawari Mittha, Kinnow, Seedless Lemon, Jati Khati, Bara Masii, Ornad Blood, Mosambi, Murcott, and many more were on display at various markets. The interactive exhibits during the citrus fest drew in guests of all ages, particularly fruit connoisseurs. The faculty of the University of Sargodha informed the tourists about citrus-based products.
Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary, Coordinator General COMSTECH, visited each stall during the expo and complimented the exhibitors on their high-quality citrus production. According to Prof. Choudhary, the University of Sargodha plays an essential role in citrus fruit research and development. He thanked the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Sargodha.
According to Prof. Choudhary, citrus is a highly nutritious fruit. He applauded the University of Sargodha’s initiative to investigate the medicinal benefits of this fruit. He stated that COMSTECH had developed a citrus processing unit in Nigeria. Prof. Choudhary thanked the guests to the show. Prof. Choudhary praised the diplomatic community for supporting COMSTECH’s activities and objectives.
The Vice Chancellor of the University of Sargodha, Prof. Dr. Qaisar Abbas, praised the festival’s exhibitors. He stated that this was the first citrus exposition staged in Islamabad. Prof. Abbas added that in this exhibition 45 types of citrus fruit had been displayed and he assured that in the following year exhibition there will be more variations.
The two-day citrus festival was opened on Tuesday at COMSTECH, with ambassadors and diplomats from Sudan, Yemen, Iran, Azerbaijan, Palestine, Kyrgyzstan, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Kenya, and Russia attending.
Mr. Murtaza Noor, Advisor Media and Outreach COMSTECH, stated that the citrus festival will be held annually to enhance citrus exports, and complimented the Coordinator General COMSTECH and the Vice Chancellor of the University of Sargodha on arranging this year’s festival in Islamabad.
