LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi said in a press conference on Sunday that the selection committee will decide the future of captain Babar Azam.
The 29-year-old Azam was recently appointed as Pakistan’s white-ball captain after the 2023 World Cup was ruled out of all formats. He recently led the Green Shirts in a five-match T20I home series that ended 2-2 with New Zealand.
Naqvi confirmed that Azam will remain captain until the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, but wants the captaincy to last longer.
“The selection committee must decide the future captain of Babar Azam. For now, he is the captain until the 2025 Champions Cup,” he said.
It is up to the selection committee to decide which player they want or not, I have no control.”
Naqvi said that we never focused on the importance of fitness, but now we will evaluate it.
“We never work on the fitness of the players, look at the players from other countries. We have to work on our fitness, how can the fitness camp affect the level of fitness of the players? He said.
Recall that in March, Babar met the PCB leadership to discuss plans ahead of the 2024 T20 World Cup, after which Naqvi decided to give him a place in the white-ball cricket team.
It should be noted that Babar Azam has captained Pakistan in five international tournaments so far – the T20 World Cup 2021 and 2022, 2022 and 2023 and the Asia Cup 2023 and the World Cup 2023, but the Green Shirt has not won an ICC tournament or the Asia Cup. . leadership
